Determining Repair vs. Replacement: You have to consider and assess the extent of damage and your comfort level because you might not be comfortable in fixing the complex issue of charging tips.
Severity of Damage: If you see a badly frayed wire or a completely broken pin then it is more likely to get replaced.
Comfort Level: If you’re unsure about the repairs or you lack necessary tools for repairing, it will be best if you opt for a replacement tip or you can get it replaced from professional.

DIY Solutions for Fixing Broken Tips

You can consider these DIY solutions after following the steps explained above:

Using Heat Shrink Tubing

You can use Heat shrink tubing which will provide relief and can protect you from minor damage to your charger tip.

It’s generally not recommended by me and my team as a long-term fix for a broken charger tip.

Now I will share the steps that you can follow to fix the broken tip by wrapping it with heat shrink tubing and providing a secure and insulated cover.

Double-Check the Repair: As mentioned before, you have to check the root cause of the problem that you are going to fix. Look for Exposed wires that should be properly reconnected and insulated first before wrapping heat shrink tubing.
Prepare the Heat Shrink: You have to Choose a heat shrink tube with a diameter that is slightly larger than the repaired tip or a slightly loose tip, it will make sure you have snug fit when the tubing is shrunk.
Slide the Tubing: Now you have to carefully slide the tubing over the repaired tip, which will ensure the protection of your desired area.
Apply Heat Cautiously: You have to use a heat gun to shrink the tube, set the gun on the lowest setting, and start applying heat from the gun on the tubing to fix it.
Avoid Direct Heat: Try to avoid applying heat to the tip itself or the wires because it could damage them further making it more messy to fix later on. Apply heat from some distance.
Constant Movement: You have to keep moving the heat gun constantly to avoid overheating any components within the tip which can damage it further instead of fixing it. Keep the Focus of the heat gun on the tubing itself and not on exposed charger wire or tip.
Gradual Shrinking: Slowly start applying the heat and shrink the tubing a little at a time, and from time to time inspect the wire if you see signs of warping or melting then stop immediately or you can damage the tip or wire.

Reinforcing with Epoxy Resin

You can Apply epoxy resin to reinforce cracked or weakened charger tips, it will ensure durability and stability for your charger tip for longer run.

If you apply Epoxy it will strengthen the outer casing and will not address the root cause of the problem, such as broken wires or loose connections that cannot be repaired properly with this.

But this might provide some structural support when applied to the charger tip and won’t fix electrical issues.

Potential Safety Hazard: If you dont apply epoxy properly then it could insulate damaged wires, which you can overlook because epoxy is hiding potential electrical hazards that can cause more problems later. So, you must make sure that you have proper electrical repair done to the charger tip before you start to apply epoxy.
Difficulties with Removal: If in the future the epoxy that you applied needs to be removed for further repairs or the tip is damaged again due to any reason then it can be a messy job to do and a challenging task in itself.

Double-Check the Electrical Repair: If you confirm that the root cause of the problem is properly fixed and won’t get damaged again soon then you should reconnect properly and insulate the charger tip by making it strong.
Clean the Area: Use some rubbing alcohol and clean the surface containing dust etc with cotton swabs, you should thoroughly clean the area that you are going to repair, where you’ll be applying the epoxy resin. Cleaning the surface will ensure proper adhesion to the charging tip.
Prepare the Epoxy: You have to Mix the epoxy resin appropriately and add the hardener according to the company manufacturer’s instructions or you can search online. Just make sure to work in a well-ventilated area and wear a paint suit if you can afford one or you can do your work by wearing only gloves and safety glasses.
Apply Basic Epoxy Application: If you don’t feel the need to reshape your epoxy, then you can simply apply a thin layer around the base of the repaired tip for reinforcement.
Shaping with Molding Clay (Optional): If you want a more contoured application, then use molding clay in order to create a temporary mold which will help in shaping the epoxy for better aesthetic application on the charging tip. You have to Apply the epoxy mixture carefully into the mold and make sure it covers the desired area.
Let it Cure: You have to Allow the epoxy to dry completely so it is cured completely. Remember that the drying process can take several hours so be patient.
Remove Molding Clay (if used): Once cured you can then carefully remove molding clay if you used for shaping the mold.
Sanding (Optional): If you want to have a fine look then you can use fine-grit sandpaper which can be used to smooth any rough edges on the cured epoxy gently. Just be careful so you dont sand the repaired area or wires beneath.

Replacing the Tip

If you notice severe damage on your charging tip then replacing it will be a viable solution and it will be a more compatible replacement I also recommend this solution for broken laptop charging tip.

I always follow these steps that I am going to explain below for fixing the broken laptop charging tip:

Identify the Wires: You have to be careful when you examine the base of the charger tip from where it is connecting to the cable. You will be more likely to find two wires: a thicker positive wire and a thinner negative wire remember that these might be color-coded (red is for positive, and black for negative) but you should always double-check your specific model if you are unsure about the colors and working, etc.
Cut the Old Tip: Use diagonal cutters to snip off the damaged charger tip and try to cut as close to the base of the cable because it will help you a lot in making a clean and better connection.
Strip the Wires: You can use the wire stripper in order to carefully remove a small section (which should be around 1/4 inch) of insulation from each wire, you have to expose the bare metal that is beneath the wire cover. You have to be very careful so you dont nick or damage the wires themselves.
Attaching the New Tip (Screw-on or Press-fit): The Replacement tips can have different attachment methods so do not worry at all because I am going to explain below:
Screw-on: You can screw onto the cable base if you have screw-on cable tip type. You just have to Tighten the screw safely and securely and also avoid over-tightening.
Press-fit: If you have these types of tips that you want to fix then simply just press onto the cable base which will get tight and it will ensure a snug and secure fit.
Visual Inspection: Whether you have a Screw or press fit type of tip remember always to Double-check all connections that you made and for proper soldering (if applicable) and you must have secured the attachment of the new tip properly to avoid non-working in the future.
Testing: For testing purposes, you must plug the charger into an outlet and connect the charger to your laptop. If your repair would have been successful then the charging indicator light in your laptop should turn on.
Safety Reminder: You should never use a charger that has exposed wires or it has a damaged tip, even if you’re testing it.
